Johnny Cooke V Maurice Cullen
Cooke takes on Cullen in a final eliminator for the BBBofC lightweight title at the Liverpool Stadium 4 October 1962
This was the second time these two boxers had met, on each occasion Cullen beat Cooke on points. In the first contest at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester in 1961 Cullen prevailed over 8 rounds. The rematch saw Cullen win again this time over 12 rounds. Cullen earned the right to take on Dave Charnley for the British title but lost the 15 round contest on points. He would eventually win the title in 1965 when de defeated Dave Coventry of Liverpool at the Liverpool Stadium. Cullen eventually won the Lonsdale Belt outright but lost his title to Ken Buchanan in 1968 in London.
